Ortega to lead Veszprém for two more years

Carlos Ortega extended his contract with MKB-MVM Veszprém for an additional two years. The Spanish coach will remain at the helm in Veszprém until the summer of 2017.

”I am happy that the management was satisfied with my work, this contract extension is the justification of the work we have done throughout the last two seasons. I am proud and honoured that to have the chance to lead such a prestigious club for two more years,” Ortega told ehfCL.com.

Along with assistant coach Xavi Sabaté Carlos Ortega took over the Hungarian champion from Lajos Mocsai, who became coach of the Hungarian national team in 2012. The Spanish coach managed to win each and every Hungarian trophy and had led Veszprém to the quarter-final of the VELUX EHF Champions League in his first year before finally making it to Cologne last season.

”Our aims have not changed, we want to be part of the Cologne action every year. In my first year we narrowly missed out, but the second year we made it to Cologne and it is a big sign of improvement. We will continue to fight for our goals this year and the nex two.”

Ortega’s third year at the helm started very well, Veszprém are undefeated in all competitions and due to their 100% record they comfortably lead both the most difficult group in the VELUX EHF Champions League and the SEHA League.

The Ortega family is happy to stay for two more years in Hungary: ”We live in Budapest and are getting better at finding our way around so I must say the whole family is happy that we will stay in Hungary until 2017,” concluded Ortega.
