Hergeirsson leaves room for four in Norway’s EHF EURO team

Thorir Hergeirsson has almost made up his mind about the Norwegian team he will take to the Women’s EHF EURO in Hungary and Croatia next month, but admits that he is in doubt about four players.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Norway’s national coach announced 12 out of the 16 players who are going to form the squad at the tournament.

The most prominent name missing among the players named was right back Linn Jorum Sulland.

However, the experienced Larvik player is one of nine players who are his first-choice candidates for the last four positions, according to Thorir Hergeirsson.

"We still have some question marks. There are some players we want to take a closer look at before making the final decision.

"Some have come back from injury recently, and in some other cases, we are still in doubt if they can take the strain.

"We expect to be able to nominate the last four players before we meet for the Møbelringen Cup at the end of this month.

"It would be best for the stability in the team if we can do it by then," Hergeirsson said.

At the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 Norway have been drawn to Group B in which they will face Romania, Ukraine and Denmark.

Norway are the record winners of the Women’s EHF EURO, having topped the podium on five occasions since the first event 1994.

However, at the Women’s EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia their dominance of four consecutive wins was broken when Montenegro beat the defending champions 34:31 after double extra time.

The 12 players, who have been nominated already, are:

Goalkeepers: Karin Aalvik Grimsbo (Team Esbjerg), Silje Solberg (Team Tvis Holstebro)

Right wing: Linn-Kristian Riegelhuth Koren (Larvik)

Left wing: Camilla Herrem (HCM Baia Mare), Sanna Solberg (Larvik)

Back court players: Veronica Kristiansen (Glassverket IF), Ida Alstad (FC Midtjylland), Karoline Dyhre Breivang (Larvik) Stine Bredal Oftedal (Issy Paris Hand), Nora Mörk (Larvik)

Line players: Heidi Loke (Györi Aud ETO KC), Pernille Vibe (Issy Paris Hand)
