ROUND REVIEW: The Women’s Cup Winners Cup consisted of just one second round match this weekend, as BNTU-BelAZ Minsk Reg. took a huge step towards progression
Minsk with one foot in the next round
The second round of the Women’s Cup Winners Cup consists of only two ties, and only the first leg of one of those was played this weekend.
In the Sport Palace RCOR in Minsk, BNTU-BelAZ Mins Reg. took on ACME Zalgiris from Lithuania, and that game brought the Belarusian hosts very close to the third round before the return match in Kaunas next weekend.
After an 18:11 lead at half-time, Minsk went on to win as clearly as 32:20, and the exceptional performance from Zalgiris centre back Gabija Vidunaite (ten goals) did little to keep her team in touch.
It will still be some kind of mountain to climb for Zalgiris on home ground next Sunday, if they are going to make it one round further.
The only other tie this round is between Byasen Trondheim from Norway and WHC Danilovgrad from Montenegro.
That tie is being played as a double header in Danilovgrad next weekend.
