Kosovo becomes a full member of the European Handball Federation

The member nations of the EHF have decided at the EHF Congress to grant full membership to the handball association of Kosovo, making it the 50th member federation of the EHF.

In Dublin the majority of member nations present voted in favour of the motion that Kosovo shall be admitted.

It means that Kosovo with immediate effect will be allowed to participate in national team competitions whereas before their participation as an associated federation was limited to club competitions.

Kosovo has registered to participate in the qualification for the Women's 17 EHF EURO 2015, the Women's 19 EHF EURO 2015, the Men's Junior World Championship 2015 and the Men's EHF EURO 2018.

The Handball Association of Kosovo was accepted as an associated federation at the EHF Congress 2004 in Budapest and since the admission as a full member was requested by the representatives of the Handball Association of Kosovo several times.

At the 2012 EHF Congress in Monaco a resolution was passed that as soon as the political situation enables the EHF full membership shall be granted to Kosovo.

Already in January 2014 the EHF Executive Committee has granted its associated federation, Kosovo, the immediate right to conduct friendly national team matches.

A Kosovo national team also participated at the Women's 18 European Open 2014 in Gothenburg.
