With 100 days to go until the Women’s EHF EURO, Budapest says ‘Handball, I love you’

For handball fans all across Europe it is time to count down the days to the Women’s EHF EURO in Hungary and Croatia in December, as 29 August marked 100 days to go until the first match is played on 7 December 2014.

To celebrate the occasion a large countdown clock was unveiled on Friday at the Museum of Fine Art in Budapest’s Heroes Square by the city’s mayor Istvan Tarlos, the President of the Hungarian Handball Federation Ivan Vetesi and Hungarian international Anita Bulath.

The slogan underneath the clock reads “Kezilabda Szeretlek” which means “I love handball”.

Budapest hosts the event’s final weekend including the semi-finals on 19 December and the finals on 21 December and Istvan Tarlos said he hopes for a “full house” at Papp Laszlo Sportarena and that all fans present will remember these days in the Hungarian capital.

“Handball in Hungary is a sport with a huge tradition, success and enthusiastic fans who are eagerly waiting for the championship to start in December,” said the Deputy State Minister for Sport Norbert Kiss.

Ivan Vetesi and Zoltan Marczinka, the managing director of the Hungarian Organising Committee, confirmed that preparations are well on track and that everyone is working hard to produce a “fantastic and high-level event”.

“We are proud that we can co-host (together with Croatia) this championship. We want to provide special and unforgettable moments for the teams, the participants and the fans over the matches in our venues, in Győr, Debrecen and Budapest.”

The organising committee will continue to promote the EHF EURO in the host cities. A promotional movie trailer will be aired soon the official song will be presented in October.
