Aalborg sign Emil Berggren until new year

This late signing is due to heavy injury problems among the back court players by the Danish VELUX EHF Champions League participants.

The new right back Isaias Guardiola who has joined from Rhein-Neckar Löwen this summer, has got inflammation in his left shoulder, and the other right back Martin Larsen is still recovering from a torn cruciate ligament. Furthermore is left back Marcus Mørk still nursing shoulder problems.

“I am looking forward to putting the Aalborg shirt on and playing in the top of the Danish league and in the Champions League. I have got a very positive impression of the club, and I know several of the players already, so I am really looking forward to getting started,” said Emil Berggren who represented Bergischer HC in the German Bundesliga last season.

Before that, he played for the Swedish league clubs Redbergslids IK and  IK Sävehof. In the 2011/12 season he scored 54 goals in 11 matches for Sävehof in the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase and Last 16. In his most recent match in the European top flight he scored seven goals in the Last 16 match against another Danish club AG Copenhagen.

Can cover all back court positions

“Emil is a clever player who can play at both ends of the court. He is physically strong and can cover all three positions in the back court line,” said Aalborg director Jan Larsen about the right-handed player who was tested in Aalborg's training camp in Sæby north of Aalborg last week before the contract was signed.

In the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase, Aalborg Handball are in Group D, where there opponents will be Polish champions KS Vive Targi Kielce, French champions Dunkerque HB Grand Littoral, Swiss champions Kadetten Schaffhausen and Hungarian runners-up Pick Szeged as well as a team from the qualification tournament.
