REVIEW: Six teams from Europe reach the next knockout stage at the final tournament in FYR Macedonia
Two all-European duels at Youth World Championship quarter-finals
Following Monday's Last 19 matches, there are six European national teams left at the Women's Youth World Championship in FYR Macedonia.
In Wednesday's (30 July) quarter-finals Netherlands vs. Romania and Denmark vs. Russia are the two all-European duels, while Germany face Korea and Montenegro play against Brazil.
Germany took one of the tougher roads to reach this stage as they needed double extra time and a shoot-out to fight their way past Portugal, eventually winning the match 40:39.
In another Last 16 matches Russia beat Sweden 25:21. The match was a repetition of the Women's 17 EHF EURO Final in 2013 which Sweden had won 26:24.
Montenegro and Denmark enjoyed comparably easy passages to the quarter-finals, as Montenegro eased past Argentina 31:22 and Denmark beat France 33:22.
Romania proved too strong for Croatia (28:22) and Netherlands narrowly held down Hungary (22:21).
For Norway the Last 16 were the last stop at this championship. They lost 26:29 against Brazil. In the only match without European participation Korea beat Japan 42:34.
The quarter-finals are played in Ohrid on Wednesday in the following order:
12:00 hrs: Netherlands - Romania
14:30 hrs: Brazil - Montenegro
17:00 hrs: Germany - Korea
19:30 hrs: Russia - Denmark
