TV Emsdetten fined

The EHF Court of Handball has reached a decision in a case opened against the German club TV Emsdetten regarding failure to pay education compensation.

In August 2013, the player Oddur Gretarsson was transferred from the Icelandic club KA Akureyri to the German club TV Emsdetten. Two decisions, respectively from the EHF Administrative body of first instance and the EHF Court of Appeal, which confirmed the first instance decision, imposed on the club to pay the due education compensation to both the Icelandic club and the Icelandic Handball Federation.

However, despite reminders sent by the EHF Office, the club TV Emsdetten refused to proceed to the payment.

The EHF Court of Handball has found that the club TV Emsdetten shall be sanctioned according to article XI of the IHF Regulations for Transfer Between Federations and article E.5 of the EHF List of Penalties since it failed to pay education compensation on time.

Consequently, the EHF Court of Handball imposed on the club TV Emsdetten a €2,500 fine and a two-year transfer ban at international level (ban imposed on a suspended basis with a probation period of two years starting as from the date of the present decision).

For the sake of clarity, it is hereby highlighted that the club proceeded to the payment of the education compensation during the legal proceedings.

An appeal may be filed within seven days.
