EHF Court of Handball has released a decision following Ukrainian Handball Federation's withdrawal from the organisation of 2014 Women’s U20 World Championship qualification tournament
Suspended fine for Ukrainian Handball Federation
The EHF Court of Handball has released a decision regarding legal proceedings opened against the Ukrainian Handball Federation due to their withdrawal from the organisation of the Qualification Europe Tournament for the 2014 Women’s U20 World Championship Group 2 after having officially confirmed that they would organise the event.
According to article D.5 of the EHF List of Penalties, a fine of €15,000 is imposed on the Ukrainian Handball Federation. The entire amount is imposed on a suspended basis with a probation period of two (2) years from the date of the decision.
The EHF Court of Handball found that whilst on the one hand, the withdrawal did not endanger the sport of handball, on the other, although the political situation was known by the Ukrainian Federation when confirming the organisation, the exceptional nature of the current political and social situation in Ukraine did not guarantee a proper organisation of the tournament.
Additionally, the Ukrainian Handball Federation is suspended from organising any EHF national team competition for a period of one year from the date of this decision.
An appeal may be filed with the EHF Court of Appeal within seven days.
