EHF Court of Handball decision released

During a press conference which took place few days after the 2013/14 VELUX EHF Champions League Quarter-final (2nd leg): HC Vardar-Skopje (MKD) vs. SG Flensburg-Handewitt (GER), the President of HC Vardar-Skopje, Mr. Sergey Samsonenko, stated that the EHF referees of the match were not impartial, a video to assess the performance of the referees and demonstrate the alleged impartiality was also presented.

The EHF Court of Handball found that the remarks shall be regarded as derogatory and contravene the principle of respect, fair-play and sportsmanship defined in the EHF regulations as well as in the EHF Code of Conduct signed by each club while registering to an EHF competition.

Based on article B.4 of the EHF List of Penalties, the EHF Court of Handball decided that Mr. Sergey Samsonenko shall pay a fine of €4,000 (four thousand) for derogatory remarks in the media towards EHF referees which may bring handball and the EHF into disrepute.

Half of the fine, i.e. €2,000 (two thousand) is imposed on a suspended basis with a probation period of one (1) year starting from the date of the present decision, i.e. until June 20, 2015.

An appeal may be filed with the EHF Court of Appeal within seven days.
