Clear wins for Netherlands and Sweden

Sweden and Netherlands had relatively easy-going matches in their final round of the Women’s EHF EURO Qualification.

Group 4: Netherlands vs. Turkey 37:21 (18:12)

In a match which would not have any impact on the final group ranking no matter the result, the Dutch team gained a clear win following an improvement after the break.

Because Spain had won their final qualifier yesterday, it was clear that Netherlands would not be able to finish as group winners despite their fifth win from six matches – and after booking the EHF EURO ticket on Wednesday.

After the hosts had already been ahead 15:5 after 16 minutes, they decelerated and allowed the Turkish side to reduce the gap to only six goals at the break.

However, the match was decided at the latest when the Netherlands scored an impressive 12:0 series to bring the result from 18:13 to 30:13 -  but the Turkish resistance had been broken much earlier.

Best Dutch scorers were Laura van der Heijden (8 goals) and Estavana Polman (7). Turkey finish the EHF EURO 2014 Qualification as third in Group 4 with four points from six matches.

Group 5: Sweden vs. Switzerland 36:17 (18:6)

Sweden ended their qualification campaign in unbeaten fashion after recording their fourth victory with a 36:17 against Switzerland (their two qualifiers against Serbia ended in a draw).

Early on Sunday they ended all Swiss hopes for their first point already in the first half, when the gap was 12 goals (18:6) after 30 minutes of play.

With nearly all court players scoring, Sweden had an easy end to the qualification.

Best scorer in a one-sided match was Anna Maria Johansson with six goals for the hosts.
