MTG signs exclusive deal for next six seasons in Scandinavia

EHF Marketing GmbH has announced that Modern Times Group (MTG) has signed an exclusive six-season deal for the broadcast rights of the VELUX EHF Champions League and WOMEN’S EHF Champions League for Sweden and Norway.

The new agreement, brokered by MP & Silva, follows the announcement that DR and MTG sports channel, TV3 Sport, will broadcast Europe’s premier club competitions in Denmark.

In Sweden and Norway, MTG has exclusive free-TV and pay-TV rights for linear and on-demand platforms in a deal that runs from the start of next season until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Matches will be shown on the free-TV channels TV10 in Sweden and Viasat4 in Norway, and on the dedicated premium pay-TV sports channel Viasat Sport, which is available in both countries. There will also be coverage on the catch-up channels TV10 Play and Viasat4 Play, as well as the online pay-TV service Viaplay.

Peter Vargo, Managing Director of EHF Marketing GmbH, said: “We’re very happy to have signed a long-term contract with a strong broadcast partner in these key markets. Handball is hugely popular in Scandinavia and this deals means that handball fans can look forward to extensive coverage across MTG’s channels in the seasons ahead.”

Peter Nørrelund, Head of Sports, MTG, commented: “Our aim is constantly to provide our viewers with the best sport on TV. And by prolonging the EHF Champions League rights we have secured just that. Handball is developing fast these years, and we love to be a vital part of this development, and at the same time to bring all the excitement, fascination and the superstars of handball close to our customers.”
