NEWS REPORT: The SG Flensburg-Handewitt centre back calls retreat an "insanely difficult" decision
Thomas Mogensen leaves Danish national team
Centre back Thomas Mogensen, who was a key player in the Danish team that won silver at the EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark in January, has decided to bid farewell to the national team.
"It has been an insanely difficult decision, but I have decided to say the national team goodbye," the 31-year-old player from SG Flensburg-Handewitt told the Danish newspaper in Flensburg, Flensborg Avis.
"I have always been a person who gives 100 per cent, but as time has gone by it has become harder and harder to make family, club and national team function together," explained Mogensen who recently extended his contract with Flensburg until 2018.
Mogensen's goodbye to the national team comes less than a month after his teammate in Flensburg, Michael Knudsen, announced a similar decision.
Denmark's future national coach Gudmundur Gudmundsson regret's the playmaker's decision. "Of course, it makes me sad, but after all it is his own decision," Gudmundsson said.
Thomas Mogensen has played 106 internationals for Denmark and scored 261 goals.
