"It’s going to a big show, something new, something great"

Rob Fowler will perform his song “Do it like us” live at the VELUX EHF FINAL4. In this interview he reveals what fans can expect.

You sang already at the 2013 VELUX EHF FINAL4, this year you’ll be back, even performing the official – your – EHF Champions League song “Do it like us”. What happened in between?

Rob Fowler: Peter Vargo, the managing director of EHF Marketing, approached me, saying: ‘We like what you do and your attitude. We can imagine producing an EHF Champions League song with you.’ So I started producing five songs together with Viennese production company BEAT4FEET, and we thought that “Do it like us” fits perfectly to handball. We were amazed by the result and so was the EHF.

Is it more like a rock song or an anthem?

Rob Fowler: It’s a rock song that everyone can sing along to. At the same time it’s a very rhythmic song with a perfect drum beat. Just a very cool thing. I’m really looking forward to performing it at the VELUX EHF FINAL4. It’s going to be a big show, something, something great.

What’s the song’s theme?

Rob Fowler: The EHF wanted a song that everyone, no matter where they come from, can join into at any time. Everyone can sing the chorus and the song really creates a sense of community. The song is about not only dreaming about things, but doing everything to make them happen.

That perfectly fits the energy that is encapsulated in the Champions League: Handball rocks. Everyone wants to be No. 1, but at the same time there is a sense of community among the players and teams.

Being British, you probably did not have that much exposure to handball before?

Rob Fowler: The first time I got in touch with the sport was at the London 2012 Olympics. But it was only at last year’s FINAL4 that I became a true fan. What grabbed me, was this family weekend atmosphere, entirely positive, without any kind of aggression.
