Westphal to replace Kappelin in Aalborg

It has been a fact for a while that Soren Westphal will leave Kolding Kobenhavn at the end of this season, as the club has signed former Danish international Marcus Cleverly to partner Kasper Hvidt in goal.

In Aalborg, Westphal will join up with Norwegian international Ole Erevik.

“Ole Erevik and I are different goalkeeper types, and I am sure we will supplements to each other very well.

“I am really looking forward to becoming part of Aalborg Handbold, a club with the right ambitions and used to competing for medals.

“Furthermore, the team have a fantastic home crowd and I am looking forward to playing in front of them in Gigantium,” Soren Westphal said.

He is going to replace Swedish goalkeeper Richard Kappelin, who is leaving for French league club Sélestat Alsace Handball on a two-year contract, after just one year in Aalborg.

“Richard Kappelin as well as Aalborg wanted to try something new, so it is a happy separation.

“We have been chasing Soren Westphal for some time, even before he signed for Kolding Kobenhavn two years ago, and I am sure that he will fit perfectly into the team we are going to have next season,” Aalborg director Jan Larsen told ehfCL.com.

Before joining KIF Kolding Kobenhavn in the summer of 2012, Søren Westphal represented three other Danish league clubs, GOG, TMS Ringsted and Nordsaelland Handbold.
