From the EHF EURO to the Challenge Cup

To three of the players in the squad of Polish club KS “Azoty-Pulawy”, the coming weekend will mean a return to the European stage.

Polish internationals Przemyslaw Krajewski and Michal Szyba as well as Jan Sobol from the Czech Republic were all active at the EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark last month.

This weekend, then, it will be the first leg of the Last 16 of the Challenge Cup, when the Polish team travel to Turkey to meet Nilüfer BK in the early afternoon Saturday.

Poland is the only country with two teams among the last 16, the other one being Górnik Zabrze.

In the Pogon Zabrze – which was also the former name of the handball pride of the town – Górnik are receiving Romania's representative HC Odorhei Saturday in the early evening.

In the VELUX EHF Champions League, HC Motor Zaporozhye are in danger of not making it on from the group phase, but should that happen, the other team from the city, Zaporozhye, ZTR, are ready to make sure that the city remains represented in Europe.

Sunday afternoon, ZTR will be in Greece, facing A. C.  Doukas for the first leg of this Greek-Ukrainian encounter.

In Portugal, Aguas Santas-Milaneza are hosting KH BESA Famiglia from Kosovo, while Bulgarian HC Spartak get a visit from Finland in the form of Cocks, and Serbian team RK Metaloplastika Sabac are playing at home against HRK “Karlovac” from Croatia.

The last two ties of the Last 16, HC Victory Regia Minsk (BLR) vs IK Sävehof (SWE) and United HC Tongeren (BEL) vs SPE Strovolos (CYP) are both being played as double headers next weekend.
