Guardiola to replace Jakobsson in Aalborg
Danish champions Aalborg Handball have found the replacement for Swedish international Johan Jakobsson as the hard-shooting left handed back court player will be leaving for SG Flensburg-Handewitt at the end of the season.
On Thursday afternoon, Aalborg confirmed having signed a two-year contract with Spanish right back Isaias Guardiola who will be joining the club from German side Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
“I am looking forward to joining Aalborg and playing in the Danish league,” 29-year-old Guardiola said, as the contract with the Danish club was announced.
“My ambition is to play in a top club, and I am definitely going to get that ambition fulfilled in Aalborg, where I am sure that we are going to have a strong team who will be in top four of the league in the coming seasons.
“I have been watching the team in the Champions League and I think it looks very interesting,” added Guardiola, who played for the Spanish league clubs Valencia, Naturhouse La Rioja and Ciudad Real (later Atletico Madrid) before joining Rhein-Neckar Löwen in the summer of 2012.
Delighted director
“Guardiola is going to add a lot of physical strength and international experience to our team,” a happy Aalborg director Jan Larsen said about the two meter tall and 103 kilogram heavy Spaniard.
“He has played at the absolute top level in the Spanish league as well as the German league for 10 seasons, and furthermore has he played several matches in the Spanish national team,” concluded Larsen.
