Boxen goes crazy as Denmark clinch finalagainst France

In the final of the 11th EHF European Championship the reigning Olympic winners France will face the tournament's hosts Denmark on Sunday in Herning. France sailed past current world champions Spain in the semi-final after 30:27 win, while Danes eliminted Croatia in the second semi-final (29:27).

The atmosphere has been intense in Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning on every match night of the EHF EURO 2014, but the 14,000 spectators in the arena practically went crazy with a little less than a minute left of the sem-final between Denmark and Croatia on Friday.

At that point, Rene Toft Hansen closed the match in Denmark's favour with his goal that made it 29:26 and booked Denmark the ticket for the final against France on Sunday.

A few seconds earlier, a lost Croatian ball had practically made it all clear, but Rene Toft's goal removed the last doubt.

For the third time after 2006 and 2010, when they eventually topped the podium, France have reached the final of a Men's EHF EURO event.

The reigning Olympic and double EHF EURO champions beat world champions Spain in a thrilling and emotional semi-final on Friday (24 January) in Herning  30:27 (12:14).

Match winners were goalkeeper Cyril Dumoulin and the top scorers Luc Abalo (eight goals) and Valentin Porte (seven goals, awarded best French player).

In the first match of the day Iceland beat Poland 28:27 in the match for the 5/6 place.
