NEWS REPORT: Mads Mensah Larsen from Aalborg will join the German side after this season as he follows his current coach Nikolaj Jakobsen to Mannheim.
Löwen sign Danish top talent
Like coach, like player. After Rhein Neckar Löwen had announced earlier that current Aalborg coach Nicolaj Jacobsen will become new coach from the next season on as successor of Gudmundur Gudmundsson (new Danish NT coach), now one player will follow.
Right before the start of his first ever EHF EURO campaign (on home court) Danish top talent Mads Mensah Larsen signed a three year contract valid until 2017 at reigning EHF Cup winners and current VELUX EHF Champions League participants.
22-year-old Larsen will arrive in Mannheim after this season. “We are absolutely happy that one of the biggest Danish talents has decided to join our squad. Mads is fast, has a hammer shot and huge future potential,” Löwen manager Thorsten Storm said about his newcomer.
At Löwen Mads Mensah Larsen will also join his Danish national teammate Niklas Landin, with whom he became runners-up at the 2013 world championship in Spain. Before, Larsen led Denmark to EHF EURO gold in the U20 tournament.
“It has always been my biggest goal to play in German Bundesliga – so now I am really looking forward to this great challenge and to take the next step in my career,” Larsen was quoted on the Löwen website. He had started playing handball on professional level at FIF, before joining AG Handbold in Kobenhavn.
After being on loan for season at Nordsjælland Handbold he joined former VELUX EHF FINAL4 participant AG Kobenhavn again in 2011. After the bankruptcy of his club, he transferred to Aalborg to become Danish champion for the second time in May 2013 under his current and future coach Nicolaj Jakobsen.
