Huge anticipation as Men’s EHF EURO 2014 set to throw off in Denmark

The first major handball highlight of the year is set to throw off in four cities across Denmark on Sunday, 12 January 2014 as Europe’s top 16 teams compete in the 11th Men’s EHF European Championship.

Copenhagen, Aarhus, Herning and Aalborg will play host to the opening rounds, with main round matches to be played in Aarhus and Herning. Semi-finals and finals will be played on Friday, 24 January and Sunday, 26 January in Herning’s Jyske Bank Boxen in front of a capacity crowd of over 14,000.

And with the home team looking to defend their European title, won in Serbia in 2012, there is massive media and spectator interest in the event right across Denmark.

Global coverage – both on TV and via YouTube

The EHF EURO will be shown in 175 countries as Infront Sports & Media, the EHF’s media and marketing partner, closed agreements with 75 broadcasters. For the first time since the first EHF European Championship in 1994, the entire Latin America territory will be able to watch the action live and delayed.

Handball fans can also follow the action live and on-demand with full English commentary on the championship’s official YouTube Channel (www.youtube.com/ehfeuro). The channel will show all 47 matches as well as the latest video news and highlights.

First ever SpiderCam introduced at EHF EURO

Top quality coverage is guaranteed as host broadcaster, Denmark’s TV2, broadcasts the championship in full High Definition Television with up to 18 cameras bringing every possible angle to the viewers at home.

Coverage will be complemented by high speed super slow motion cameras and, in a premiere for the European Championships, the use of a SpiderCam in Denmark’s group in Herning. Over 700 media representatives working in television, print and online media will be present in Denmark reporting extensively from the two-week event.

Online coverage at ehf-euro.com

Re-launched ahead of the first matches of EHF EURO 2014, the official championship website at www.ehf-euro.com will provide handball fans with a complete and extensive picture of the latest happenings from Denmark.

With a team of more than 25 professional journalists and photographers, the website will provide brand new features including a new responsive design and live blogging from the event as well as extensive reports, news and live streaming of all matches.

Fans will be able to follow the championship via an ever increasing number of social media channels, including the official championship Twitter account (www.twitter.com/ehfeuro), Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ehfeuro), and Instagram (www.instagram.com/ehfeuro).

Strong partner support

In agreements brokered by Infront, seven official sponsors will be present at EHF EURO 2014. They will benefit from extensive exposure both in Denmark and worldwide through LED board and floor advertising, as well as logo integration in all print publications as well as on the official website.

In addition, extensive onsite activation rights and a corporate hospitality package are provided to commercial partners. The EHF EURO 2014 Official Sponsor line-up includes: Actavis, AJ, engelbert strauss, Grundfos, Intersport, Outrup and the 2015 IHF World Handball Championship in Qatar.

Most exciting EHF EURO to date

Commenting ahead of the start of EHF EURO 2014, Jean Brihault, EHF President, said: “With the huge passion that the Danes have for handball, added to the fact that they are looking to defend their European title, I am sure that we are heading for one of the most exciting European Championships to date.”

Stephan Herth, Executive Director Summer Sports at Infront, added: “The EHF EUROs are continuously on the rise in terms of television exposure – the 2012 Men’s EHF EURO reached a cumulative audience of 1.47 billion. Since then, together with the EHF, we have focused on further enhancing the media product and on delivering it to even more fans around the world. Together with the seven Official Sponsors of the event, we look forward to a global handball highlight followed by millions of fans.”
