NEWS REPORT: The shooter of Polish runners-up will stay in Plock until June 2016 after he signed a contract extension. His recovery from a right-hand injury is coming to an end and most likely he will be available for his team in the last three rounds of the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase.
Ghionea gets back on track with new contract
Year 2014 has started very happily for Valentin Ghionea this time. First, it seems that his right hand is almost cured and second – it turned out that Romanian right winger will stay in Wisla Plock longer as he prolonged the contract with the club till June 2016.
Wisla’s Plock top scorer had very bad luck at the end of 2013 year. During one of the trainings he suffered an injury of a metacarpal bone in his right hand and was supposed to have a break for six weeks.
Now, his recovery time apparently comes to an end, what is a definite good omen for Ghionea, who had been the top scorer of the VELUX EHF Champions League before he got injured.
“Generally I feel good but very soon I will have the meeting with the club’s doctor and I will know the exact details about my health conditions,” Ghionea revealed.
Leading by two points ahead of FC Porto his team is on the right track to clinch the Last 16 ticket. Plock will play two out of three remaining matches on home court (against Dunkerque and Kolding) and will conclude the group phase with a Polish derby against Kielce in the Round 10.
Ghionea seems to feel very comfortable in Poland and even attractive offers from foreign clubs could not lure him to leave Plock.
“I have prolonged my contract with Wisla Plock and I’m very happy because of that. Of course I had other interesting offers, but I have chosen Wisla. I have found here a really nice atmosphere created by the fans, nice people inside the club, very good group of players and a top class coach,” he said.
