Calf injury puts Sigurdsson in doubt for EHF EURO

Aron Kristjansson, Iceland's national team coach, has ruled out Olafur Gustafsson (SG Flensburg-Handewitt) for the European Championship in Denmark in January.

Gustafsson is injured and will miss the final tournament just like Alexander Petersson (Rhein-Neckar Löwen).

The team's captain, Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson (THW Kiel), is also a new name on the Icelandic injury list.

Sigurdsson is currently suffering from calf injury that puts him in doubt for the EHF EURO.

He missed training on Sunday just like Arnor Gunnarsson, Arnor Atlason, Vignir Svavarsson, Aron Rafn Edvardsson and Sverre Jakobsson.

Neither Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson nor Arnor Atlason will travel to Germany on Thursday where Iceland play some test matches against Germany, Austria and Russia.

"The rest of the squad is fit at the moment, and that is good. Our doctor team is working with the other players and we’ll see how many of them will be ready for the EURO 2014," Kristjansson told Icelandic media.

Iceland’s first match in Group B is against Norway on 12 January.
