Montenegro captain Mrvaljevic out for EHF EURO 2014

Montenegro will have to play the EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark without their team captain Drasko Mrvaljevic.

It is a major blow for the team of Zoran Kastratovic just two and half weeks out of the tournament as the playmaker and the squad's most experienced player suffered an injury and will be out for six weeks.

Some days ago Mrvaljevic sustained the injury in the match between his side, German Bundesliga club GWD Minden, and TSV Hannover-Burgdorf.

At first it did not seem that serious, however closer examinations showed a fractured tendon in his knee.

It is the second consecutive major tournament that Mrvaljevic misses as he also was not able to play at the World Championship 2013 in Spain.

"I'm really sorry that I will not play in Denmark. Doctors told me that I can’t take the risk, and I have rest for at least six weeks.

I was hoping that the injurie was not serious and that I would be able to play at the EURO, but that’s not possible," Mrvaljevic said.

"We can whine about it, we have Mirko Milasevic, Zarko Pejovic and Stevan Vujovic, who can cover that position," Montenegro coach Zoran Kastratović said, knowing that also Stevan Vujovic currently has some problems with a left leg injury.
