MATCH REPORT: The final European Cup games of 2013 prove to be a one-sided battle in Ukraine
Zaporozhye complete the Last 16
The final Last 16 participant in the Men´s Challenge Cup was finally confirmed last weekend, as ZTR Zaporozhye won this weekend´s postponed double header in Round 3 against Olimpus-85 USEFS 66:48 on aggregate.
ZTR had the home advantage in both matches which were carried out in the Palace of Sports “ZAS” in Zaporozhye.
Zaporozhye made things more or less clear as early as the first half of the first match, as the Ukrainians were leading 19:12 at half-time.
In the second half, the 800 spectators saw their local heroes increase the seven goal lead to 36:23, a result which practically reduced the second leg on Sunday into a formality.
The second match was more of a contest than the previous meeting had been, as Olimpus were even leading by one at half time, 13:12. However, the Moldovans could not stop Zaporozhye from winning again, this time 30:25, partly thanks to 11 goals from left back Maksym Karamyshev.
With the last 16 draw already made, A. C. Doukas from Greece had an eye on the double-header, as they were awaiting the winner. The Greeks will have the home advantage in the first leg of the tie to be played in February.
