Prce shines in Bosnian win over Portugal, while Ukraine hold off Slovenia

Nikola Prce played a major role in Bosnia and Herzegovina's 31:29 win against Portugal on Sunday in the Qualification Europe for the World Championship 2015 in Qatar.

The prolific left back netted nine times and helped turning around a hotly contested match that saw the home team trailing 13:14 at half-time.

With two wins from two matches the Bosnian prospects for a place in the European play-offs, for which only the group winners of each of the five groups qualify, will most likely be decided in the double-header against Latvia which takes place in the first week of January.

Latvia beat Estonia 35:25 and now have also four points in their account in Group 5. On the contrary, Portugal's and Estonia's chances to progress have received big blows as both teams still sit on zero points after two of six rounds have been played.

The matches in the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo and the Latvian city of Dobele were two of overall ten encounters on this 'Super Sunday' that saw all Round 2 matches being played within just a matter of hours.

Lithuania and Romania keep clear records

In Group 1 Lithuania followed in neighbouring Latvia's footsteps and also took their second win in their second match.

Despite being behind 9:11 at half-time against Turkey, they turned the match around and eventually won 23:20 in Ankara. They now top Group 1 ahead of Georgia, that beat Finland 26:19, and the Finnish team itself as both teams have two points.

In Group 2 Romania took a never-threatened 32:24 victory against Slovakia to bring their tally to four points as well.

Italy won 36:29 against Cyprus to retain their first two points. They now sit on third rank in Group 2 equal by points with Slovakia on the second rank.

Onufryienko and Ostroushko put 16 past Slovenia

Sergiy Onufryienko and Vladislav Ostroushko became the match winners in Ukraine's 32:28 victory against Slovenia.

With eight goals each they contributed exactly half of their team's goals and helped them to their second win in Group 3. Best scorer for Slovenia was Luka Zvizej with seven goals.

Slovenia and Switzerland sit on ranks two and three respectively with two points each after the Swiss team comfortably eased past Luxembourg 32:23.

Andre Schmid scored ten times for Switzerland and now occupies the second rank in the qualification's top scorer ranking together with the aforementioned Onufryienko and Prce.

Overall best scorer with 18 goals is Israel's Chen Pomeranz whose 12 goals on Sunday put a damper to Netherland's hopes of reaching the play-offs when Israel beat the Dutch side 28:26 in Group 4. In the second match Greece beat Belgium 31:25.

This group is the most even as all four teams have won and lost one match each after two rounds have been played.

Play-offs in June

Rounds 3 to 6 of the Qualification Europe will be played at the beginning of January.

The European play-offs which will ultimately decide about nine spots for European teams at the World Championship 2015 will be played in June 2014.

The World Championship in Qatar throws off in January 2015.
