NEWS REPORT: Ruling Danish champions FC Midtjylland will be missing playmaker Lærke Møller for almost the rest of this season. The 24-year-old Danish international has undergone surgery for a loose knee cap and will be sidelined for six or seven months.
Lærke Møller sidelined for six or seven months
Lærke Møller, who has had several injury breaks during recent years, had to leave FC Midtjylland's home match against FTC Rail Cargo Hungaria in the Women's EHF Champions League Round 1 due to problems with her right knee, and examinations later revealed a loose knee cap.
The knee cap simply came out of position when she made certain movements. Last Wednesday she underwent surgery for the injury, and now she is looking ahead of a six or seven month break.
“I was fine that I could have surgery so soon, although I had obviously hoped to avoid an operation. However, it is good that the problem has now been taken in hand, and that I can look ahead now. However, I am sorry, of course, that I am going to miss most of this season, where we are back in the Champions League,” Lærke Møller told her club's website.
“It is good that the knee is now under control, but it is really sad for Lærke that she has had to undergo surgery,” FC Midtjylland's head coach Helle Thomsen said.
“Furthermore, it is extremely annoying for the team that we are going to miss as good a player as Lærke in a tough and exciting season with a lot of matches,” Helle Thomsen added.
FC Midtjylland have won their first two matches in Group B of the Women's EHF Champions League. Sunday they are playing a top game in the group at home against Budućnost who are also undefeated.
