100 reasons to visit the Men’s EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark - Part 3

We are rapidly approaching the throw-off for the 2014 Men's EHF European Championship in Denmark.

From 12 to 26 January next year 16 European teams will show the very best handball has on offer in their quest for the sport's European throne.

With the event reaching the 100-days-to-go-mark in the first week of October and to whet the fans' appetite, eurohandball.com has started publishing 100 reasons why you should not miss out on this highlight of the 2014 handball calendar.

The reasons will be published in groups of 10 over the coming days and every day one reason will also be published on the event's official Facebook page.

While some are truly sports-based, some have to be read tongue-in-cheek, but overall they will give a picture why the 2014 European Championship is worth a visit.

Here come reasons 21 to 30 why you should not miss out on the Men's EHF EURO 2014:

Reason 21: To see if Denmark, the EHF EURO 2012 champions, can become the first team since Sweden (winners in 2000 and 2002) to defend a Men’s EHF EURO title.

Reason 22: To watch the only German participating in the final tournament. After Germany - for the first time - failed to qualify for the European Championship the only German on the court will be Poland's coach Michael Biegler.

Reason 23: To place a bet which FC Barcelona star will finish the tournament with the highest number of goals: France's Nikola Karabatic, Belarus' Siarhei Rutenka or FYR Macedonia's Kiril Lazarov.

Reason 24: To savour the taste of traditional Danish hot dog. According to the blog 'Street Cuisine' over 100 million hot dogs are eaten in Denmark every year.

Reason 25: To enjoy the prowess of up to nine players who have already won the EHF EURO twice. The Danes Hans Lindberg, Michael Knudsen and Bo Spellerberg won the trophy in 2008 and 2012, while Thierry Omeyer, Daniel Narcisse, Jerome Fernandez, Michael Guigou, Nikola Karabatic and Luc Abalo stood on top of the pdoium with France in 2006 and 2010.

Reason 26: To count the number of Swedish talents in the nation's EHF EURO squad, after Sweden became junior world champions in July.

Reason 27: To watch in awe how many players will follow the unofficial motto 'who shaves, loses'. For example, at the EHF EURO 2012 Spanish player Jose Hombrados, Alberto Entrerrios, Jorge Maqueda and Joan Canellas (see picture above) vouched not to get rid of their facial hair until they lost their first match.

Reason 28: To visit the biggest multi-purpose arena in Denmark, Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, at which the Danish national team plays all its matches.

Reason 29: To cheer for the men’s team of the current Women’s EHF EURO champions: Montenegro which qualified for the second time after their participation in 2008.

Reason 30: To give it a try whether 'Danish Dynamite' is really dangerous. Don't be too afraid though as the term commonly refers to the Danish national football team of the 1980s.
