Jagodina and Odense close to third round

After three teams qualified for Round 3 of the Women’s Cup Winners’ Cup last weekend, Serbian Jagodina and Danish Odense are close to follow them after clear away wins in the first leg.

Turkish champions Muratpasa Belediyesi SK, Italian champions Jomi Salerno and Gorodnichanka from Belarusia are all ready for Round 3 after having absolved both legs of Round 2 last weekend. This weekend five more teams for the third round will be found, and while both legs in two of the ties will be played this weekend, there are obvious favourites in at least two of the three meetings, where the first leg was played last weekend.

ZORK Jagodina are the team who are closest to the next round. After their 35:26 away win against Union Korneuburg, the Serbs have more than one leg in Round 3 before receiving the Austrians for the return match Saturday in the Sportska hala Jassa.

If Jagodina manage to finish the job against Korneuburg, a rather heavy challenge will be waiting in Round 3 in the form of Danish Viborg HK.

It might be too much to say that the return match between HC Odense and WHC Metalurg in Parup in the outskirts of Odense Saturday looks to be a formality, but after their 30:24 win in Skopje last Saturday, a lot of things should go wrong for the Danes in order to not send the Macedonians out of the tournament.

There is also a clear distance in the tie between SERCODAK Dalfsen and KGHM Metraco Zaglebie Lubin, but as the Dutch champions head the home advantage when defeating the Polish side 27:20, Dalfsen cannot feel completely safe and secure yet.

A Polish win on aggregate should not be out of the question when the two teams meet for the second leg in the Hala Sportowa in Lubin Saturday.
