ROUND REVIEW: Turkish champions Muratpasa Belediyesi SK, Italian champions Jomi Salerno and Belarusian side Gorodnichanka joined the list of teams in Round 3 of the Women's Cup Winners' Cup. Danish Odense made an impressive first step in the European Cup.
Three teams qualify for Round 3
Muratpasa Belediyesi SK, Jomi Salerno and Gorodnichanka are the first three teams to progress from Round 2 of the Women's Cup Winners' Cup as all three won both of their home matches in the Round 2. Five more teams will follow them next weekend.
The Turkish champions played host to Juve Lis and in both cases they beat the team from Portugal by double figures (32:18 and 33:23). Ukrainian Olga Laiuk was the top scorer of Muratpasa with 10 goals in two games. The Turkish club will face Rostov-Don from Russia in the Round 3 scheduled for 9/10 and 16/17 November.
Maria Amelia Belotti led Salerno with 12 goals in two matches through Swiss team SPONO Nottwil (32:21, 29:21). Her side will play against Norwegian qualifier from the EHF Champions League Tertnes Bergen in the Round 3.
Gorodnichanka sailed past Israeli's HC Holon (33:15, 41:18) and will meet Hungary's Veszprem Barabas in the next round hoping that Khrystyna Ozolina will be able to emulate her 13-goal performance from the Round 2.
The Danish club HC Odense made a successful European premiere as they won on the court of the Macedonian runners-up WHC Metalurg 30:24.
"It was our first away win in the club's first European Cup. Although we were behind one goal after the break, we were still better on all parameters -technically, tactically and physically. Our Macedonian rivals ran out of gas in the second half and we are very satisfied with our victory," assistant coach Robert Gertsen said on the club's website.
The Dutch champions SERCODAK Dalfsen will enter the second leg against KGHM Metraco Zaglebie Lubin with a seven-goal cushion after their 27:20 win.
