Mikkel Hansen misses Danish training camp

Danish head coach Ulrik Wilbek has summoned his players for a three-day training camp throwing off on Monday, as the defending champions start their preparation for the EHF EURO 2014 just about 100 days before their first match on 12 January 2014.

However, several key players are missing as neither Mikkel Hansen nor Nikolaj Markussen and Lasse Svan Hansen are able to attend.

Hansen was not given the permission to travel by his club PSG Handball as according to the French club too much travelling would put too much strain on the back court player's knee, the Danish Handball Federation said in a press release.

"It’s a great pity," commented Ulrik Wilbek. "Especially because I called up my players in due time a month ago."

The 25-year-old Hansen underwent a knee surgery at the beginning of June this year. On Saturday Hansen scored three goals but could not prevent his club losing 26:28 against Metalurg Skopje in the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase.

Nikolaj Markussen will miss the training camp as he plays with his Qatari club El Jaish on Tuesday.

SG Flensburg-Handewitt's right wing Lasse Svan Hansen sustained a hand injury in the German Bundesliga match against Füchse Berlin on Sunday night.
