EHF Court of Handball decision in the case of BM Atlético Madrid

The EHF Court of Handball has released a decision in the case regarding the withdrawal of BM Atlético Madrid from the VELUX EHF Champions League 2013/14.

The club registered to participate in the VELUX EHF Champions League 2013/14 and was drawn in Group B. However, in July 2013, due to financial difficulties leading to their bankruptcy, the Spanish club withdrew from the competition.

Pursuant to articles 2.6 and 2.6.2 of the VELUX EHF Champions League 2013/14 Regulations and article C.1 of the EHF List of Penalties, BM Atlético Madrid is fined 25,000 € for withdrawing from the VELUX EHF Champions League and is excluded from participating in any handball club competition organised or authorised by the EHF for the 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons.

Furthermore, the club shall pay the entry fees for the 2013/14 VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase according to the Regulations as they registered for the competition.

The club has the right to appeal to the Court of Appeal within seven days.
