Davis leaves the game

FC Porto Vitalis left wing and former Atletico Madrid star David Davis has retired from professional handball.

The 36-year-old’s contract implied that he would stay with FC Porto until the end of the VELUX EHF Champions League qualification tournament. That objective was accomplished and although David thought about playing throughout the season, his decision was to end his career now.

In an interview to the Portuguese newspaper “O JOGO”, he was clear about the situation.

“My decision was already taken when FC Porto’s proposal appeared, and staying a month was always one of the options,” explained Davis.

Short, but successful spell

This exit comes with a price for the Portuguese champions and they will surely get back on the market in order to sign another left winger for their appearance in the group phase.

Ricardo Moreira, the club captain, told ehfCL.com last month that the arrival of the experienced players to the club (Álvaro Ferrer and David Davis) was one of the most decisive factors for qualification.

David Davis has accomplished the only objective in his contract with FC Porto and the club will be grateful for his services.
