Late arrival at Rhein-Neckar Löwen

Rhein-Neckar Löwen have once again reacted to the series of long-term injuries in their squad.

After signing Nikola Manojlovic and Sergei Gorbok to compensate for the injuries of Alexander Pettersson and Zarko Sesum, the German VELUX EHF Champions League participants announced another transfer on Monday (9 September).

With right wing Marius Steinhauser set for several months on the sidelines after his second cruciate ligament rupture within only five months, Rhein-Neckar Löwen signed Serbian international Rajko Prodanovic.

The 27-year-old left handed player has been loaned out from MKB-MVM Veszprém for the current season – and will face his (now) former teammates very soon: Veszprém host Löwen in their second match of the Group Phase in the VELUX EHF Champions League season on 29 September.

“We had long and intense negotiations with Veszprém, but finally we found a solution,” Löwen manager Thorsten Storm is quoted on the club website

“Veszprém had three right wing players, Löwen only one, now we have more stability and safety on this position,” said Storm

The arrival of Prodanovic, who scored 33 goals in the VELUX EHF Champions League last season for Pick Szeged, will take away some of the burden on German international Patrick Groetzki, who is currently the only right wing in the Löwen squad.

“It would have been unsuitable to let Patrick play for 60 minutes in all competitions,” admitted Storm.

Prodanovic started his career at Serbian side RK Jugovic in Novi Sad and made his first move abroad to Spain (BM Antequera). A stint with Macedonian side Vardar Skopje, before he arrived in Hungary, where he played for Pick Szeged and signed for Veszprém this summer.
