Rost out, Marković in for HSV

After only six weeks at the club, Frank Rost and HSV Hamburg have gone their separate ways.

On Monday evening, the former German football national team goalkeeper resigned from his job as club director – only some hours after he had been part of the official pre-season press conference of the defending VELUX EHF Champions League champions.

“We had hoped that we can improve some things together, but it did not fit,” HSV President Matthias Rudolph was quoted by several German media on Tuesday (13 August), as there is currently no official statement from the club, which play their wild card qualification matches for the next VELUX EHF Champions League season against fellow German club Füchse Berlin on 21 and 23 August.

On Monday morning Rost had focussed on titles, no matter the competition.

“When a club has a budget like we have, we need to win titles,” he said in the pre-season press conference.

Rost, a former HSV football player, only began working in this position on 1 July.

In better news for the club, a new player has been signed.

Due to the clubs injury worries in the right back position, with newcomer Adrian Pfahl suffering from an elbow injury and Oscar Carlen continuing his struggle with cruciate ligament tears, HSV reacted and signed Montenegrin international Žarko Marković.

27-year-old Marković has played for the likes of Veszprém and Metalurg and arrives from former EHF Cup winner Frisch Auf Göppingen.
