50,000 spectators expected for ‘Day of Handball‘ in Frankfurt
World record attempt in Germany
The opening day of the 2014/15 season in the German Bundesliga looks set to be something rather special.
On 6 September 2014 the top German sides HSV Hamburg and Rhein Neckar Löwen will meet in a season opener in front of a potential crowd of 50,000.
The match, in the home arena of football club Eintracht Frankfurt, could well shatter the existing world spectator record for a handball match, set on 21 May 2011 in the Parken Arena, Copenhagen as 36,651 followed the Danish cup final between AG Kobenhavn and Bjerringbro-Silkeborg.
A full programme of events around the ‘Day of Handball’ will include a youth tournament for 80 teams, with finals to be played in the arena ahead of the big match.
Tickets for the event will go on sale in September 2013. Visit the official website www.tag-des-handballs.de for additional information.
