Wild card decision delayed

The EHF has announced that a decision on the host of the wild card tournament in the VELUX EHF Championship has been delayed.

Following media reports that the handball section of Spain’s Atletico Madrid is in serious financial difficulties, the EHF is currently seeking to clarify the situation and to ascertain whether the club will be in a position to participate in the VELUX EHF Champions League in the coming season.

A possible withdrawal of Atletico Madrid would mean an available place in Group B of the competition. The EHF would then need to make a decision on qualification for this open position.

As this may have an impact on the format and playing of the wild card tournament, it has been decided to delay the announcement of the host of the tournament until the week commencing 15 July 2013.
