Special awards for LANXESS arena and Cologne

The EHF presented the City of Cologne and the LANXESS arena with two special awards on Wednesday, 26 June 2013.

The awards were made in recognition of the part both Cologne and the LANXESS arena have played in the successful development of the EHF Champions League in playing hosting to the VELUX EHF FINAL4.

The City of Cologne was presented with the 20 Years of European Handball Champions League ‘Top City’ Award and the LANXESS arena with the ‘Top Venue’ Award.

Collecting the awards were Lord Mayor of the City of Cologne, Jürgen Roters, and Managing Director of the LANXESS arena, Stefan Löcher.

Commenting on the awards, Michael Widerer, said: “Cologne and the LANXESS arena have proved to be the perfect partners for the VELUX EHF FINAL4. The huge success of the event over the past four years speaks for itself, as does the fact that almost half of the available tickets for 2014 have already been sold."

The awards were presented ahead of a preparation meeting for the 2014 edition of the VELUX EHF FINAL4, which again take place in Cologne on 31st May and 1 June 2014.
