Poland without Jaszka and Lijewski in EHF EURO 2014 qualification
Poland's men's national team head coach, Michael Biegler, has announced his final squad of 16 players that will face Netherlands in Almere on 12 June, coping with the fact that he had to replace to experienced players due to injuries.
One of them is Bartłomiej Jaszka, who is tired after long season in the German Bundesliga with Füchse Berlin. Jaszka joins the national team after the match against the Netherlands. It is possible that he will play on Sunday (16 June) for the second EHF EURO qualifier against Ukraine.
Furthermore Krzysztof Lijewski had to leave the preparation camp for the EHF EURO 2014 qualification matches due to an injury.
However, with six points from four matches, the Polish situation in group 5 can be described as comfortable as one point from the remaining two matches will be enough to secure the ticket to Denmark.
Biegler's nominated squad includes one debutant: Michał Szyba. The KS Azoty Puławy right back impressed Michael Biegler during the Scandinavian Cup in the first week of June when the team finished third (behind Norway and Sweden and ahead of Romania).
"The team that played at the Scandinavian Cup played together for the first time, and we know that we have to improve our defence," said wing player Michał Daszek.
"This is the main task in Michael Biegler’s tactics. I think that we played better in each game, it allowed us to win last match against Romania."
For 20-year-old Daszek it is the second time he has been called for the national team.
"It is a great honour for me to play in national team again. I am very happy with this chance. I don’t think about the EHF EURO 2014 as of yet. It is still a long way to Denmark. I hope that I will continue to develop my skills to hopefully also get called for the next matches.
