Györ centre back adds best young player award to her Women's EHF Champions League winners' medal
Kovacsics takes young player award
For the second time in the history of the Women’s EHF Champions League, the best young player of the season was awarded by premium sponsors of the competition, bet-at-home.com.
bet-at-home.com called handball fans to action from all around the world as well as a few professionals and top club teams.
After receiving over five thousand votes, the crystal award was handed over Anikó Kovacsics, from Györi Audi ETO KC, shortly after her team secured their first Women’s EHF Champions League title with a 23:22 win over Larvik.
“That was the best day of my life. We had been waiting for a long time to win the Champions League; we had worked a lot for it.
“The award of the Best Young Player was an additional surprise, but means a lot to me. The other girls on the voting list are also really talented and had a good season,” said the 21-year-old Hungarian.
Kovacsics won the award with 43 per cent of the vote, ahead of Budućnost's Milena Knežević on 28 per cent and Larvik’s Thea Mørk on 16 per cent.
“Me and Milena Knežević have played many times against each other for years in youth teams and now at the top level.
“I believe that we have gained a lot, being part of these top teams. I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the supporters of Györi ETO KC, because this result also shows that my team has the best fans,” concluded Kovacsics.
