Veszprem Arena hosts Women's EHF EURO 2014 qualification draw

26 national handball federations will have their eyes set on Veszprem Arena, as the venue on Sunday, 26 May 2013 at approx. 17:00 hrs. hosts the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 qualification draw.

The draw will take place on the fringes of the Hungarian women’s national cup final tournament which throws off over the same weekend also at Veszprem Arena.

Apart from the organising nations, Hungary and Croatia, which are directly qualified, 26 national teams have registered to take part in the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 which will start on 7 December 2014.

These 26 teams are: Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Serbia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine.

At the draw the 26 teams will be drawn into five groups of four teams each and two groups of three teams each.

Qualification will be played in three periods of two matches each with each team having a home and an away match against each of the other teams in its group.

The two top ranked squads of each group will qualify for the final tournament.

Draw procedures

According to the EHF Women's National Team Ranking, the teams are divided into four pots.

Pot 1: Norway, Denmark, Montenegro, France, Sweden, Russia, Spain

Pot 2: Romania, Serbia, Germany, Iceland, Netherlands, Ukraine, Czech Republic

Pot 3: FYR  Macedonia, Turkey, Slovenia, Poland, Austria, Belarus, Slovakia

Pot 4: Switzerland, Portugal, Italy, Lithuania, Finland

In the first step of the draw the five teams of pot 4 will be drawn to row 4. After that the seven teams of pot 3 will be drawn to row 3. In the third step the seven teams of pot 2 will be drawn to row 2, before the seven teams of pot  1 will be drawn to row 1.

The first two rounds of the qualification for the Women's EHF EURO 2014 will be played from 23 to 27 October 2013. The other playing dates are

Rounds 3 and 4: 26 to 30 March 2014

Rounds 5 and 6: 11 to 15 June 2014

The Women’s EHF EURO 2014 in Hungary and Croatia takes place from 7 to 21 December 2014.

Official event website goes online

With more than a year and a half to go until the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 throws off in Hungary and Croatia, the European Handball Federation is pleased to announce that the event’s official website on the EHF EURO Events hub, www.ehf-euro.com, has gone online.

The website offers information on the qualification system for the EHF’s flagship national team event as well as in-depth descriptions of the six confirmed venues and the respective hosting cities – Budapest, Debrecen and Györ for Hungary; Zagreb, Varazdin and Porec for Croatia.

Download options for the official championship logo and press statements are also already available, so are the relevant contact details.

In the months to come the website will be the official hub for all news related to the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 and will grow and evolve as the final tournament approaches.
