VELUX EHF Champions League Quarter-finals pairings were drawn on Tuesday in Vienna.
Kiel vs Veszprém, Barcelona against Atlético
Defending champions of the VELUX EHF Champions League, THW Kiel, will face in the quarter-finals the well-known faces of MKB Veszprém KC who they already met twice in the group phase. All four pairings of the last knock-out stage before the VELUX EHF FINAL4 were confirmed on Tuesday as the quarter-finals draw of the premier European club competition took place in Vienna.
The draw was carried out by Chairman of the Competitions Commision Leopold Kalin.
In total, three former winners of the continental top flight progressed from the group phase. The record seven times trophy holders FC Barcelona Intersport will meet their domestic rivals from Atlético Madrid (2006, 2008 and 2009 winners). There will be one debutant this year again in Cologne as the only team of the group phase with a perfect record 10 victories out of 10 matches Vive Targi Kielce will lock horns with Metalurg Skopje. In an all-German duel HSV Hamburg will take on SG Flensburg Handewitt.
The first leg is scheduled for 17-21 April, the second leg will follow from 24 to 28 April. The winning teams of the quarter-finals qualify for the climax of the season, the VELUX EHF FINAL4 in Cologne (1 and 2 June 2013).
