EHF Court of Handball decision released

The decision of the EHF Court of Handball has been released following legal proceedings against the club Rhein-Neckar Löwen regarding the floor used in the match of the Men’s EHF Cup 2012/13 Group Phase.

The match between Rhein-Neckar Löwen (GER) and HC Motor Zaporozhye (UKR), hosted by Rhein-Neckar Löwen, took place on 16 February 2013 in the GBG Hall in Mannheim, Germany.

The EHF Court of Handball, pursuant to articles 6, 12.1 and 14.1 of the EHF Legal Regulations and article D.2 c) of the EHF List of Penalties imposed a fine of €4,000 on Rhein-Neckar Löwen for playing the game on a court not composed only of handball lines as laid down in article 3.1 “General”, Chapter III “The Venue” of the 2012/13 Men’s EHF Cup Regulations.

€1000 of the fine has been imposed on a suspended basis with a probationary period of one year.

An appeal to the EHF Court of Appeal may be lodged by the club within seven days.

Men’s EHF Cup

At the beginning of the 2012/13 season, the Men's EHF Cup was re-launched following requests from participating clubs to raise standards and performance levels within the competition.

A revamped format sees Men’s EHF Cup played with a Group Phase and a final weekend, the EHF Cup Finals, which will take place in Nantes, France on 18 and 19 May 2013.

The EHF Cup now forms the second tier of Europe’s top men’s club competition structure, with the VELUX EHF Champions League as Europe's premier club competition and the EHF Challenge Cup as the third tier of competition.
