Bosnian goalkeeper is out for the rest of the season with an ACL rupture
Šabanović injury continues Atlético's goalkeeper misfortune
Recent Atlético Madrid signing, Adnan Šabanović, will need surgery and will remain sidelined for six months, after a thorough exploration of his right knee confirmed everyone’s worst fear.
A rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the recent VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase match against Hungarian team MKB Veszprém KC.
Bosnian goalkeeper, Šabanović, was brought into Atlético de Madrid to substitute Jose Javier Hombrados, who suffered the same injury in the left knee, and his injury makes quite hard for the Spanish team to look for alternatives at this stage of the season.
The management will have to make do with their current squad and hope that there are no more serious injuries.
This setback for the Madrid squad, who have been paired with Füchse Berlin in the Last 16 of the VELUX EHF Champions League, leaves a great deal of responsibility for 18-year-old goalkeeper Antonio Díez, who will now be a regular name in the line-up until the end of the season.
