Kjelling stays in Denmark and joins Bjerringbro-Silkeborg

On the very same day as Bjerringbro-Silkeborg head coach Carsten Albrektsen had his wish to draw FC Barcelona Intersport in the VELUX EHF Champions League Last 16 come true, even more good news came his way.

Norwegian international Kristian Kjelling, whom the Danish club have been chasing for a long time, will join the club this summer from Danish league rivals Aalborg Håndbold.

“For some time, Kristian Kjelling has been one of those players whom I have very much wanted to join our club, as I think that he possesses some of the qualities we are missing on the court.

“He has that individual level which enables him to decide matches, even if the team does not play well, “Carsten Albrektsen said in an official statement, after Bjerringbro-Silkeborg had secured Kjelling´s signature on a two year contract.

“Bjerringbro-Silkeborg is a top team and a team that has things under control. I feel that the club is ambitious, and of course it appealed to me that one of the best teams in Denmark wanted me,” Kristian Kjelling explained after having signed for the second placed team in the Danish league.

“I do not expect any problems to get integrated in the team. There are many good players and a fine combination of experienced players and young talents, so I think it is a good mix and a team I am looking forward to being part of,” said the 32-year-old backcourt player who is leaving Aalborg after three years at the club.

Bjerringbro-Silkeborg have qualified for the last 16 for the first time after finishing fourth in Group C.

Kristian Kjelling, who played for Spanish club San Antonio for three seasons before joining Aalborg, has played 154 internationals for Norway and scored a total of 600 goals for his country.
