VELUX EHF FINAL4 resumes charity partnership with German cancer aid

After 2010 and 2012, the German cancer aid (Deutsche Krebshilfe) is once again the charity partner for the VELUX EHF FINAL4 in 2013. The event will see the best four handball clubs in the VELUX EHF Champions League come together on 1 und 2 June 2013 at the LANXESS arena in Cologne to decide the best team in Europe. On the Friday before the VELUX EHF FINAL4 begins, a charity Golf tournament will take place, preceding one of the largest indoor sport events in the world, where on both days of competition there will be 20,000 spectators experiencing the action live.

Alongside the sporting highlight of the handball year, there will be an extensive sport and event program, and a number of activities which the German cancer aid will be involved in. The organisation will have an information booth onsite to provide information on their work in cancer prevention. Before and after the VELUX EHF FINAL4, fans will be able to take part in auctions with attractive items such as a look behind the scenes and a meet and greet with VIP with proceeds going towards the German cancer aid. At the end of the event exclusive souvenirs such as signed jerseys and the match ball from the final will also be up for bidding.

Peter Vargo, managing director of EHF Marketing GmbH says:
“Sport has always had a social responsibility, and with the VELUX EHF FINAL4 as an outstanding sporting event, we are happy to welcome the opportunity to support the German cancer aid in their important work. Over the past few years we have worked successfully together, work which we are now continuing and expanding upon. The VELUX EHF FINAL4 charity golf tournament to support the German cancer aid last year was a success for all involved. It's an impressive social event for a good cause, which has given us a lot of joy and an event that we are very happy to repeat.”

Gerd Nettekoven, managing director of the German cancer aid says:
“Our activities at a national level with HANDBALL HELPS! have proven to be continued success, and the cooperation with EHF Marketing GmbH for the VELUX EHF FINAL4 elevates our presence in handball at an international level. As part of this huge handball festival, we meet many young people, with whom we can discuss the issue of cancer prevention. Of course, the proceeds from donations to the German cancer aid are very welcome. Each grant is an important contribution for improving the care of cancer patients and promotes continued research.”

About the German cancer aid
The German cancer aid has been working for over 38 years for cancer patients. Each year more than 490,000 people in Germany, including 1,800 children and adolescents under 15 years old, are diagnosed with cancer. To help the victims and their families is the most important concern of the German cancer aid. Adhering to the motto "Help. Research. Inform." the organization promotes projects to improve the prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, medical care, and mental health care, including cancer support. The German cancer aid achieves all of this despite receiving no public funding.
