Bjerringbro-Silkeborg switch right backs

Danish VELUX EHF Champions League participants Bjerringbro-Silkeborg will be saying goodbye to right back Simon Kristiansen after the current season.

The 28 year-old former Danish international has signed a two year contract with league competitors SønderjyskE, who are currently eighth in the Danish league, on Tuesday 22 January, where Kristiansen believes he can develop further.

“I am really looking forward to the change, which I am sure can develop me as a player. Obviously I hope to play a lot and to have a crucial role in the team,” said Kristiansen, who has played 12 internationals, told local newspaper JydskeVestkysten.

Simon Kristiansen started his career at the top level of Danish handball with KIF Kolding, but when Kolding signed Spanish right back Mateo Garralda in 2008, Kristiansen moved on to Bjerringbro-Silkeborg, where he has played since.

It did not take Bjerringbro-Silkeborg long to find a replacement for Kristiansen, though. Later that same day, another Danish international, Mads Christiansen, was introduced as new right back for the ambitious central Jutland club. He will be joining from current EHF Cup participants Team Tvis Holstebro.

26 year-old Mads Christiansen, who has taken part in 49 internationals and was part of the Danish team who won the EHF EURO 2008 in Norway, has signed a three year contract with Bjerringbro-Silkeborg.

“The ambitions that Bjerringbro-Silkeborg have are the same as mine; to win trophies in Denmark and to do well in Europe every year.

“Furthermore, their fast playing style suits me well,” Christiansen said in an official statement.
