Tahirović ends illustrious career

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s best goalkeeper in the last decade, 40 year-old Enid Tahirović ended his professional career with a DKB Bundesliga match for Frisch Auf Goppingen, in their 22:25 loss to Lemgo last Wednesday.

The experienced goalkeeper came to Germany in 2008 and spent four seasons in Frisch Auf Goppingen.

Tahirović’s plan to end his career last summer was put back after HSV Handball gave him an offer which was too good to refuse.

After five months in Hamburg, Tahirović helped Frisch Auf in the last three matches of 2012 which was his farewell from professional handball.

Before Tahirović’s arrival in Germany, the Bosnian goalkeeper spent a season with Slovenian club Cimos Koper, which was his comeback to the international scene since his early days in Germany with HC Bad Voslau, HG Furth, and TSV Ansbach between 1993 and1998.

Two very important stages of his career were periods in RK Železničar Sarajevo from 1998 to 2003, and even more so with RK Bosna Sarajevo from 2003 to 2007, when Tahirović became a symbol of the rising of the most successful team in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last two decades.

Tahirović was also a key member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. He was voted the Best Athlete of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2006.

Enid Tahirović said his goodbye on his Facebook profile, telling fans: “I want to express my gratitude to all the people who followed my career all these years.

“There were a lot of beautiful moments, of course, not only nice, but after all I hope that I didn’t disappoint you, Thank you.”
