Lindberg fit for MOTW in Flensburg after shoulder problem

Hans Lindberg lives for goals, for lots goals. Lindberg has been HSV Hamburg’s right winger since 2007.

In an interview with ehfCL.com, he speaks about Danish wing players and the upcoming VELUX EHF Champions League fixture in Flensburg which will be the Match of the Week on ehfTV.com.

ehfCL.com: Have you had a look at the top scorers list in the VELUX EHF Champions League after four rounds?

Hans Lindberg: I was busy doing other things.

ehfCL.com: You led with 36 goals, three ahead of Anders Eggert with 33. Last weekend Ivan Čupić (KS Vive Kielce) just broke the Danish hold at the top of the standings. Is goal scoring a Danish specialty?

Hans Lindberg: For me it's gone well recently, and with Anders it isn´t a surprise. He was the top scorer in the German Bundesliga last season.

ehfCL.com: Everyone can see that Denmark has traditionally had strong wing players. Why?

Hans Lindberg: When we were young, we had great role models. Especially Lars Christiansen and Nikolaj Jacobsen set the standard with their many spins and tricks. The next generation would like to copy the quality and so a tradition was founded.

ehfCL.com:  Hans, on the last Sunday you threw only three seven-meter, otherwise you had to pause? Will you be able to play this time?

Hans Lindberg: A nerve in my shoulder had trapped. Our physiotherapists are working diligently to resolve this problem. On Tuesday I was able to resume playing in Göppingen.

ehfCL.com: On Sunday you face Danish compatriot Anders Eggert. Does this game have a special appeal for you?

Hans Lindberg: A few years ago yes, but not anymore. We have often played against each other. This season we have met twice in the German league, now in the VELUX EHF Champions League and maybe again in the German cup.

ehfCL.com: Is there anything that you admire about Anders Eggert?

Hans Lindberg: Anders has an incredible repertoire of shots. You never know what will come next.

ehfCL.com: What was the reason behind HSV Hamburg’s first leg win last Sunday?

Hans Lindberg: In the beginning we were seven goals behind, but overall we had played well. Our goalkeeper Dan Beutler made a couple of great saves at the end. In addition, the injury problems of Flensburg had been an influence.

ehfCL.com: Who will win Group A? What role does the game against Flensburg have?

Hans Lindberg: If we would lose at Flensburg, it will be very tight. Chekhovskie Medvedi are also still in the race for first place.

We must travel to Russia in February. But first we must look at Sunday’s game, Flensburg complained of injuries, but we have seven or eight injured players and need to fight until the very last each time. Both teams can win the game.
