Maria Fisker will be out of action for ten to twelve weeks with an elbow injury
Long break for Danish winger
Danish international Maria Fisker is going to miss the EHF EURO 2012 as well as the remaining EHF Champions League matches for her club Viborg HK.
An elbow injury which the 22 year old left winger sustained in Wednesday night´s top match against Randers HK in the Danish league has turned out to be so serious that Fisker is going to be sidelined for ten to twelve weeks.
The accident occurred in the first half of the match against Randers in Viborg Stadionhal which Viborg ended by winning 31:27. Fisker was in an in-fight with Randers winger Gitte Andersen and injured her elbow.
Now further examinations have shown that a ligament and a tendon in the elbow have been overstretched, and Maria Fisker is looking ahead of a break of between ten and twelve weeks.
The injury means that she will be missing the two remaining EHF Champions League Group Matches with Viborg as well as the rest of the matches in the Danish league this autumn. It also means that she is out of the picture for the EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia next month.
While the injury is extremely bad luck for Maria Fisker it is not a complete disaster for neither Viborg nor the Danish national team. Viborg still has British international Holly Lam-Moores on the left wing, while national coach Jan Pytlick has Ann Grete Nørgaard from Team Tvis Holstebro as well as Mie Augustesen from Thüringer HC as alternative options for the position.
"It is annoying, as she had a very good chance to be nominated for the European Championship. However, we have many good wingers who can take over, when we run into an injury like this," Jan Pytlick told sporten.tv2.dk.
