Zita Szucsánszki talks about FTC Rail Cargo Hungaria's season so far and their Women's EHF Champions League ambitions
Szucsánszki fighting for first place in Group C
In the domestic league game between Hungary’s two unbeaten Women’s EHF Champions League contenders, Györi Audi ETO KC were the clear winners against FTC Rail Cargo Hungaria.
Györi Audi ETO KC dominated the match, racing to a five goal lead at half time, and never looked back, winning the game 36:28
One of FTC's star players, Zita Szucsánszki, speaks about Wednesday's match against Győr and her team’s target in the Women’s EHF Champions League.
ehfCL.com: You lost by eight goals against Győr on Wednesday. How disappointed are you?
Zita Szucsánszki: Really I am quite sad, because I could not play as well as I wanted to. However, we were fortunate that Zsuzsanna Tomori was in world class form and scored 14 goals. Next to her our talented young players, Bettina Dajka and Luca Szekerczés, also showed good form. Unfortunately our top players are injured, Szandra Zácsik is due to have surgery and Nerea Pena has a leg injury, so they could not play. I assume the game would have been closer with their help.
ehfCL.com: Is playing in Women's EHF Champions League tough on the team after playing in the Cup Winners' Cup last season?
Zita Szucsánszki: Pretty much, especially mentally. It is quite hard to take on this tight schedule. I guess we are showing our tiredness.
ehfCL.com: Can you cool down now after you have reached your target of qualifying for the Main Round?
Zita Szucsánszki: I would say it is the same as last season when our plan was to reach the semi-final of the Cup Winners' Cup. Then we became hungrier and finally won the cup. If we could finish our group in first place, then we would have the chance to play against teams who are on the same level as us. We will have good chance against them, giving us the chance to march forward. Unfortunately we still do not know when Zácsik will return to us after her surgery. It can be four to six months or maybe more.
ehfCL.com: I assume you are satisfied with being unbeaten after four group matches?
Zita Szucsánszki: In our first match against Dinamo we certainly wanted to win, because we knew that we are the favourites. Nevertheless, we did not think that we could win by 16 goals. We knew that Savehof is a strong team, and they play an unusual style that does not suit us. All the same, we were able to beat them. Larvik is stronger than us on paper, which is why our victory was so valuable for us. I do not think we will have an easy job on Sunday against Dinamo. But one thing is for sure, we will not take it easy despite knowing we are already in the Main Round. For one thing, to claim first spot in Group C is very important for us. On the other hand it will be the last time we will play on home court this year, so we would like to entertain our fans.
